Sparta and Athens

Carson listened to this chapter in Story of the World today.  Then he told me what it was all about.

One difference between these cities were how they educated the boys.  In Sparta they educated the boys about war and how to be strong.  In Athens  they learned math, reading, writing, poetry and music in school.  This is because in Athens they had a democracy and in order for a democracy to work, the people need to be educated.

We started talking about the book I recently read for book club, Three Cups of Tea about a man who is building schools in Afghanastan and Pakistan.  It was very inspirational.    I told Carson that there are schools there which are to teach boys about war and hate.  Then there are these schools build by Greg to teach children math and reading so that they can make decisions on their own.

I am Carsons Den Leader and I really want our boys to gather money for Pennies for Peace.  $12 will educate a child for a year!  That is amazing.

The power of education is immense.
