I could really use a mentor.

I need a homeschooling friend.  Someone who has been in the trenches and enjoyed it and survived it and can just help me along.

I feel a bit as if I am in the midst of a science experiment and people are watching to see how it turns out, but they can’t really help me.  I of course do get help.  Friends have taken Carson and Bryson to the park for me so I get a few hours of aloneness, which I love.   Friends pinch hit and take Carson and Bryson so I can go help Devon in school.  So I have help in these ways.  Which is GREAT!

But what I want is a friend who homeschools too.  I need to make a new friend.   There is online support.  But this is only helpful to a certain extent.  What I want is a wonderful homeschooling community IRL.

Anyone out there?

  1. Have you checked out meetup.com or yahoo groups? I can’t imagine there isn’t *some* kind of local group. I wish I was further along in the homeschooling journey so I could be a better support. If nothing else I’m of the same mindset, so if you ever want to bounce anything off me, please feel free!! :)

  2. Yes, Sheri, I wanted to say the same thing! First, you are absolutely right that it is REALLY helpful to know folks in real life (of course, you can always call me, but I realize that’s different because I’m not close). And Yahoo groups are probably one of the best ways I’ve found other homeschoolers. Other ideas–ask at the library; sometimes a homeschooler has left contact info re. their group (actually, we’ve met homeschoolers just by being at the library during the school day–sometimes you go for preschool story hour, and there are older kids there). And check out local museums, zoos, etc. for homeschool classes. LMK how it goes!
