T1 and T2 and T3’s Teachers

Tuesday night we got a call saying that the teachers would be posted at 2 on Wed, except for grade 4 and 5.  I thought, they are probably pulling together a combo class.  I called my friend Jenny, T1’s best friend’s mom.  I said, what if we call and offer to be in the combo class.  Then they could be in the same class.  I also had insider info of who the teacher was and that she was GREAT!  She had a combo class last year and T1’s other good friend was in it and loved it.    So Jenny and I called and we let them know we were willing.  Most parents hate split classes, so I knew we would most likely get in it.  Which we did.

So Ms. A is T1’s teacher.  I met her yesterday afternoon and she was very nice.  She has 2 boys and enjoys boys as students.  7 kids from her split class last year are in her class this year doing the next years work.  So that was good to see.   I felt really good about it.

I did start freaking out this morning after I filled out her sheet so she could get to know T1.  I put down about his spelling and writing issues.  Then I was worried, what if she isn’t flexible.  What if T1 can’t focus in a combo class.  Oh, I was working my mind up into a frenzy, wishing again that we had just homeschooled.  Finally I called T1’s Speech Therapist at school and ran it by her, was Ms A going to be a good match for T1.  YES!  She used to be the RSP teacher and she is very flexible and supportive and will be a great match.  I was SO happy.  I almost started to cry.  I know for T1 it is all about the teacher.

Last night he said, “We had 2 writing assignments today, everyone finished at least one, except me.”  That sinking feeling in my stomach.  I encouraged him to work hard today.  He did finish one today and will bring the one home on Monday for homework if it doesn’t get done.

T2 has Mrs. F, who is supposedly wonderful.  I met her after school and she did seem great.  I have heard she is very engaging and inspiring to the kids.  T2 really needs a teacher like that to help him rediscover his love of learning.

T3 and I went to preschool this morning to meet his new friends and teachers.  The teachers are friends from church who have been running this preschool from the Grandma’s house for the last 13 years.  It is very play based with fun themes.  T3 had a great time and didn’t want to leave.  I promised we would go back next week.

So I get to volunteer 1 morning a week in T1 and T2’s class.  I am dreading the homework, but maybe it will be manageable.  So far things look good for this school year.
