I am wondering if this whole experience of researching homeschooling can give me somewhat of a sense of researching homebirth.
Most of the women in America birth in a hospital. That is considered the “norm”. It is not actually the safest or best place for most low risk moms to birth at, though it is perceived as such. Home is actually less risky in many ways.
Most of the children in American go to school in public schools. This is considered the “norm”. It is maybe not the safest or best place for some children to be. Depending on where you live it may be percieved as such. (For instance in some inner city schools, kids probably do not feel safe at school and their parents may not feel safe sending them there) But where I live it is considered safe, but for my son T1, with his learning style, may not be the best place for him.
Throughout history – in the past most children were taught at home “300 years ago, there were two choices: a) walk 17 miles through the snow to the one-room schoolhouse or, b) have your mother and father teach you at home.”
Througout history – babies were born at home.
People’s reaction – to homeschooling – WHY, are you crazy? It isn’t right, what about this, what about that?
People’s reaction – to homebirth – WHY, are you crazy? It isn’t safe, what about this, what about that.
Well, what about respecting each family to do the research and make the best decision for them regarding the birthing and raising of their children! I still don’t know what I am going to do. Rob isn’t really on board with the homeschooling yet, but I haven’t really tried to get him on board yet. (I figure I had better be fully on board before I convince him. 
Right now, I know if I sent the boys to school next year and there were problems with their teachers, I would take them out without a problem. I know we could do it, I just don’t know if it is the right choice for us at this time.
So the answer I give when people ask if we are done having babies… “Time will tell.” Applies to this homeschooling decision too!
